In late 2021, the contract to operate the Traffic Scotland National Control Centre was awarded to Mobiie, a joint venture between Egis and Arcadis. Mobiie, as the Traffic Scotland Operator, work in partnership with a range of stakeholders to deliver the successful operation of the Scottish Trunk Road Network. Traffic Scotland is tasked with monitoring and providing up to date traffic and travel information for Scotland's trunk road network, which links major cities, towns, airports, and ports.. From the national control centre we monitor approximately 3,500km of road network, including slip roads and roundabouts to ensure a cohesive response to major travel incidents, events and severe weather.
The road network is diverse, encompassing everything from the busy ten-lane M8 in Glasgow to single-carriageway sections in the West Highlands.
Under the Mobiie banner, Egis combines its infrastructure management expertise with Arcadis operations and technology know how to enhance Scotland's road network safety and efficiency. The collaboration enables us to monitor traffic flow, identify safety hazards, and streamline maintenance processes to reduce traffic congestion and travel times, as well as minimise the risk of accidents, promoting environmental sustainability by reducing emissions. Our joint efforts aim to make Scotland's roads safer, smoother, and greener.
The Traffic Scotland National Control Centre operates 24/7/365, utilising various tools to monitor traffic conditions, including road sensors and CCTV cameras. We also gather data from multiple organisations such as Police Scotland control rooms, the Met Office and Road Operating Companies as well as reports from drivers. The data is compiled, analysed, and disseminated through various channels, including Traffic Scotland's website, social media, radio, road signs, and partner organisations.
Thanks to our extensive data analysis capabilities and live traffic reports, we can promptly respond to incidents and provide accurate information to the public to ensure their safety and minimise disruption to their journeys.
